Like a Tsurezuregusa for a philosophy grad student.
Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
Inspired by the tumblr “Yo, is this racist?” A friend of mine has started greeting me with “Mah Ninjaaa.” Don’t panic guys, she’s white and likes women. She’s also pretty cool and we’ve acknowledged that, due to the feminist stuff I’m always on about, I’m an honorary woman and an honorary asian by virtue of studying japanese philosophy.
If any of the social justice bloggers read that, they would lose their shit hard.
Nothing too brutal happened, thought I did learn an interesting thought about femininity and masculinity: they’re abstractions, social constructions to serve a particular purpose.
That got me thinking, what if one were to write a paper called the Technology of Gender, where by one chose to treat Gender norms as tools to solve a specific set of problems, then attempted to discern whether or not these problems were still present in modernity.
Sounds like I have a paper for a feminist conference.
Also, yesterday in Nietzche, I learned that Nietzche had some bullshit conceptions of what philosophy does. Well, bullshit if you’re an asianist. I’m glad none of the nietzecheians in the department have made attempts at appropriating East-Asian philosophy. I might have to philosophically cut a bitch.
Further, today in Neo-Confucianism, I happened across the potential to read Mencius metaphorically, which would fundamentally change the way that the whole book is interpeted. I think that would be a pretty rad topic.
An “Asianist” is someone who does Asian Philosophy of any stripe. Depending on which philosophy department you’re...
everything he says but I love...do wish people got more excited
following you 100%, but...have your children.
