Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
So Between DC and Marvel a butt load of our favorite POC characters had their books canned. Let survey the damage with just the amount of characters we lost through 2011-12 campaign. Have your 40 Oz. ready to pour out the liquor……
- Daken
- X-23
- Black Panther
- War Machine
- Static Shock
- Mister Terrific
- Cassandra Cain
- Ghost Rider (Those of you who didn’t know the Rider is a Latina now)
- Spider-Girl
That is a pretty depressing list, right there.
I lost faith in the comics industry after the travesty that was Ultimatum, and then again after they killed Peter Parker in Ultimate Spiderman, though Miles Morales is cool in his own kind of way. That being said, what the fuck were they thinking cancelling Static, Daken, X-23, Cassie Cain, GHOST FUCKING RIDER, Black Panther, and War Machine? Are they stupid?
I liked War Machine as an alternative way to explore Iron Man without Stark’s baggage. X-23 was a genuinely good coming of age comic, especially the way in which her interactions play out with Wolverine, Jubilee, and the other mutants. Daken, again, was another coming of age piece that could’ve been done really well in the right hands. Hell, they could put Wolvie, X-23, and Daken in a “Bat-Family” kind of arrangement if they added Jubilee and Shadowcat.
Static and Black Panther, well, I don’t know too much about Static, but Panther was pretty cool, especially if they gave him more to do with the upcoming AvX and the fallout from Schism given that he’s fucking MARRIED to Storm. Hell, his own series could’ve dealt with problems of Wakanda in the global scene and what not.
As for Ghost Rider? With the new movie coming out, I don’t know what the fuck they were thinking.
The only thing on the list I’ll really mourn is Daken.
There was an announcement last week from DC about cancelling them both.
The Anya Corazon Spider-Girl is half Mexican, half Puerto Rican. I thought X-23 was white too, considering she’s cloned...

Man…fuck you, DC.
This relates really well to George Lucas’s comments on his Daily Show performance lately.
I concur, though I will admit I’m not sure why Daken was ever popular (it’s like wolverine, but an asshole with worse...

Yep. ^Truth bomb.^
I think they disapeared before 2011 so that is probably why they didn’t make this particular list. But I agree, those...
You would be correct and I would even add Green Lantern Corps with Kyle and John.
It’s kind of amazing that this list covers all the comics I’ve bought in the last 2 years or so.
What is Cass Cain doing on that list if it’s from the 2011-2012 period? Also I don’t believe X-23 is a PoC as she’s a...
I am pretty curious now as to which was a larger factor in determining these comics’ failures: that they are minorities...
